Death threat against Ohio University president false

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis remains safe on Monday, the day a death threat posted in an OU residence hall said he would be shot.

A few days after a death threat appeared in a bathroom at Ohio University that said the university's president would be shot on Oct. 20, everything was business as usual at OU on Monday.

Last Thursday, a message written on the door of a stall in the men's bathroom in the lobby of Jefferson Hall on East Green said "President McDavis will be shot on 10/20/2014." OU's Police Department removed the door that evening, collecting it for "evidence," said Andrew Powers, OUPD's chief, in an email.

"We have no new information to report on the death threat against the President," Powers said. "We are taking appropriate measures to ensure his safety, but for obvious reasons, I am not prepared to disclose specific details of what those measures include."

The threat was initially posted on Unseen, an anonymous mobile photo-sharing application. Thursday night, officers went door to door in Jefferson talking to students.

Powers told The Post this is the first death threat McDavis has received while he has been chief at police at OU.

"I cannot answer your question as to how many death threats the President has received this year, compared to others," he said. "He has received other threatening communications, but nothing this specific."
