One of Athens most helpful resources is requesting a levy that will improve services.
I urge voters in Athens County to vote with a resounding “yes!” for the levy in support of the Athens County Public Libraries — one of the most important and widely-used resources in our area.
Our libraries in Athens, Nelsonville, Coolville, The Plains, Glouster, Albany and Chauncey served over 390,000 visitors last year. Of those, the most important were the children. During those visits library patrons used computers, they borrowed books, DVDs and CDS, they participated in storytimes and a myriad of workshops for every age and interest; and they found themselves a part of a vibrant community of learners.
This is the first time that our library system has requested a levy. The levy will provide a stable income stream, and restore services that have been impacted by budget cuts at the state level.
The passage of the library levy is an investment in the future of this community.
Vote “yes!” on Nov. 4.
