Men's Basketball: Jason Preston will remain in the NBA Draft

Jason Preston has opted to remain in the 2021 NBA Draft and forgo his senior year at Ohio University, ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski wrote in a tweet Wednesday.

Wojnarowski also announced via Twitter that Preston will be signing with agent Drew Gross of Roc Nation Sports. Gross is also the agent of current Detroit Pistons player Isaiah Stewart, who was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft.

The announcement came following an impressive draft combine performance from Preston. The 21-year-old prospect played in two scrimmages during the combine, and in his first scrimmage, he totaled 10 points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals and shot 66.7% from the field. He was noted for his strong passing and playmaking abilities and is currently ranked the No. 43 best draft prospect for 2021 by ESPN.

Preston’s decision was announced only 10 days following the conclusion of the combine on June 27. Before the combine, Preston opted to retain his eligibility to return to Ohio for his senior season if he wished. However, it seems Preston has made up his mind.

The Orlando, Florida, native expressed gratitude to his coaches, family and fellow teammates in his own Twitter post following the tweet from Wojnarowski.

“Ohio University will always have a special place in my heart,“ Preston said via his statement on Twitter. “Thank you for taking a chance on a young kid from Orlando and allowing me to represent this great university night in and night out.”
