From the Editor's Desk: Stretched-thin students all deserve kudos

Aloha, y’all.

Last week flew by, but we had to trudge through week 12. The weather was a consolation prize, though it looks like it’s about to turn for the worst. C’est la vie.

This week our front page featured a three-day series by Colin Hanner that profiled student athletes at Ohio University. It’s always great to hear the stories of those who are so dedicated to their sport and so very busy ensuring the many plates in their lives keep on spinning.

It’s easy to get sucked into the myriad numbers sports offer — from box scores to coaches’ salaries to win-loss records — and overlook the students who are the foundation of collegiate athletics.

For all the grief we might send Athletics’ way, I just want to recognize all of their hard work, from the athletes on up. I see ya.

We have also been covering the Student Senate executive candidates carefully this week. The eight candidates have been busy participating in debates, overseeing campaigns and speaking with The Post — all while simultaneously maintaining lives as students.

The elections are in less than a week, and the candidates are pushing their platforms across all media. The candidates crafted those platforms with care, and I also want to recognize their efforts. Though it’s true the candidates would benefit from being elected, I believe each of them are working to better the university. Regardless of who is elected, the debate is healthy, and it takes effort and cojones to make that happen. I see ya.

I would be remiss, while recognizing the efforts of students who’ve been recently covered by The Post, if I neglected to mention the more than 100 people who work to run this news outlet. We spend far more hours in these windowless rooms than is assuredly healthy. I see ya, too.

But enough recognition. We’re all busy because there’s still plenty to be done in a quickly evaporating pool of time.

So back to work, everyone.
