Antonio Campbell was the Bobcat's most dominant player in the 2015-16 season, earning AP Honorable Mention for All-American. Hype for Campbell was high for the 16-17 season, but a broken right foot suffered on Jan. 14 ended his Ohio career. (FILE)

Men's Basketball: Antonio Campbell out for season

Antonio Campbell had a vision heading into his senior year.

It certainly didn't entail sitting on the bench, watching the Bobcats play without him.

Coach Saul Phillips confirmed Thursday that Campbell will miss the remainder of his senior season due to a broken right foot. It's a devastating blow to the Bobcats, who will lose their team leader and former Mid-American Conference Player of the Year.

"Season ending surgery early next week," Phillips said. "I am not (an) astute medical expert. I know enough to know he's done for the season. That's the news we got."

Campbell led the team with 16.4 points per game, as well as rebounds per game with 8.9 and blocked shots with 1.1.

The frontcourt play will now rest on the shoulders of sophomore Doug Taylor and freshman Jason Carter.

Carter and Taylor rank sixth and seventh in scoring, respectively, and also second and third in rebounds. Taylor and Carter's rebounds together only account for 9.3 per game, just 0.4 more than Campbell averaged by himself.
