It’s important that people can go out in public and do their jobs without the fear of being assaulted or harassed. Any program that aims to erase that fear should be lauded rather than ignored.
In Wednesday’s edition of The Post, we reported about a new training program that was developed to better detect and prevent sexual assault and harassment at uptown bars and establishments.
The Better Bystander program is an Ohio University student organization that has organized training programs with employees of numerous uptown bars, restaurants and coffee shops. The group’s goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment within the workplace and with customers.
We think all local establishments should do their part to eradicate sexual assault and harassment on campus and in the city and urge them to take part in the training program.
Some establishments have declined to participate in the The Better Bystander program, its coordinator said.
Although she declined to reveal which establishments chose not to partake in the program, we urge those who declined to reconsider their decision.
