Tobacco ban, handbook changes to be discussed at Faculty Senate meeting

Faculty Senate will convene for its last meeting of the semester to talk about Ohio University’s upcoming tobacco ban and changes to the Faculty Handbook

An update on Ohio University’s tobacco ban will be presented at the semester’s last Faculty Senate meeting Monday evening.

The ban, effective Fall Semester 2015, will prohibit the use of all tobacco products on OU’s campus, including traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes, which emit water vapor instead of smoke.

Faculty members will also hear an update regarding changes to email services for graduate students and employees.

President Roderick McDavis and Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit will deliver updates from their office and hear feedback from the senate.

Resolutions to update the current language in the Faculty Senate Handbook will also be presented, as well as changes to the Student Code of Conduct.

The changes will provide more in depth definitions for what the university considers are plagiarism and cheating.

The Finance and Facilities Committee will present two resolutions, both pertaining to raise compensation pools for faculty groups as a result of the Faculty Compensation Initiative.

The initiative aims to raise salaries in order to make OU third in the state for faculty salaries and benefits among 11 peer institutions.

Members of the Finance and Facilities Committee will also make a presentation on athletics funding.

Monday’s meeting will be held in Walter 235 at 7:10 p.m.
