Board: deputy should return

The Ohio State Personnel Board of Review reinstated Thursday a deputy Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly fired nearly two years ago.

Shannon Sheridan — who was fired on accusations of insubordination and sexual harassment from Kelly, according to a previous Post article — appealed the decision to the state board shortly after being fired.

The three-person board unanimously decided to reinstate Sheridan, according to documents obtained by The Post.

Per the terms of reinstatement, Sheridan will return to his position at the sheriff’s office but will not receive any back pay.

It was also ordered that Sheridan be subject to a Last Chance Agreement upon his return to the sheriff’s office, and that he must accept any additional training Kelly considers necessary for him to carry out his duties.

Kelly has 15 days to appeal the board’s decision. He could not be reached for comment by press time.
