Swimming and Diving: Ohio suffers first dual meet loss of the season

On a day in which Ohio had optimism of remaining undefeated in Mid-American Conference competition, Akron tainted the Bobcats’ once spotless record.

The Zips routed the Bobcats 156-144, despite Ohio (4-2, 2-1 MAC) placing first in half of the 16 events and in the three-meter dive.

The score, however, doesn’t nearly emulate the intensity of the conference match-up.  Going into the final event, a 200-yard freestyle relay, Akron was only leading the Bobcats 143-14O.

The lost is the second overall for the Bobcats, while Akron (4-5, 1-3 MAC) tallied its first win in MAC play.

Divers Kristin Capcik, a senior, and Morgan Srail, a junior, achieved NCAA Zone Championship qualifications, with Srail scoring a 304.05 on the three-meter dive.

Senior Laurin Williams carried the swimmer on the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle events, accomplishing times of 10:27.54 and 5:02.06, respectively.

Meanwhile, senior Rachel Stearns continued her robust season performance, clocking a 1:54.90 during the 200-yard freestyle.

Sophomores Addison Ferguson and Haley Clark took first place in the 100-yard backstroke and freestyles events, while freshman Carrie Dukes took first in the 100-yard butterfly.
