Former President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 charges in his hush money trial Thursday, making him the first former president to be convicted of felony crimes, accordingto the Associated Press.
After 9 plus hours of deliberation, a New York jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records originating from hush money payments. The payments attempted to cover up a sex scandal with a pornstar, according to AP News.
Falsifying business records is punishable for up to four years per count; however, punishment is up to the judge. There is no guarantee the judge will put Trump in prison, according to AP News.
According to AP News, Trump’s defense lawyer said in a Fox News interview he plans to appeal the trial decision.
The judge set Trump’s sentencing for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee where the Republican Party is to select its presidential nominee.
According to AP News, Trump plans to hold a news conference Friday morning at the Trump Tower in Manhattan.
“We’ll keep fighting,” Trump said, according to AP News. “We’ll fight to the end and we’ll win.”
