Ohio Notes

Coming off a defeat at the hands of Michigan State, Ohio looked to turn things around in its first game, and it did just that. Against Valparaiso, Ohio performed as close to perfection, both offensively and defensively, as a team can. The Bobcats only allowed three total shots, only one being on goal.

Offensively, Ohio had a total of 17 shots, eight of which were on goal and five of them scoring. Ohio also took eight corner kicks in the game, four in each half. This season, Ohio has been scoring 2.5 goals per game with a shot percentage of 20.8%; the team is currently second in the Mid-American Conference for total goals scored.

Opponent Notes

Marshall is coming off its first victory of the season against Belmont, winning 1-0. Every game Marshall has played this season has been either a tie or within 1 goal. The Thundering Heard haven’t allowed more than 1 goal scored in a game, but they also haven’t scored more than 1 goal in a game. The team has also been outshot by their opponents this season, 35-48, and committed 45 fouls. Marshall scores 0.5 goals per game with a shot percentage of 5.7%.

Ohio and Marshall have played each other 10 times before, with Ohio having a 6-3-1 record against Marshall. Ohio has won its last two matchups and looks to continue that winning streak Thursday.

Players to Watch

Junior forward Scout Murray had a phenomenal game against Valparaiso, scoring a hat trick in just 56 minutes of playing time. Last year, Murray had just 5 goals in 22 games, 18 of which she started. This season, Murray is off to a hot start, scoring 4 goals in the first four games, a stat that is third in the MAC. Murray leads the team in goals and shots, and is tied for the team lead in shots on goal, all while only being ninth on the team for minutes played. If Murray can continue this hot streak into Thursday, Ohio will have no problem setting itself up for success against Marshall.
