The Ohio cross country team will wrap up its season this weekend at the NCAA Regional Championships. Or at least what is left of the team will.
The Bobcats will send only one female runner and six male runners to this weekend's regional meet, a competition that will have no profound impact on this season, coach Clay Calkins said.
We want to leave on a good note for some of the guys to get ready for the upcoming track and field season and for the cross country season
Calkins said. I think everybody is raring to go and wants to set the pace for next year.
Runner Andrea Maas will be the sole representative for the Ohio women, while runners Drew Frum, Austin Schiele, Brian List, Tim Sykes, Craig Leon and David Houchens will represent the Ohio men.
Placing first for Ohio every meet in only her first season at Ohio, Maas said the reason she is competing is for the long-term benefits.
I don't really know what goals I would have except to see how I match up with everyone else in the region for next year and all the other years she said. I think it'll help me especially with (the Mid-American Conference Championships) next year and regionals next year
because we haven't really gone to any huge meets except MACs and the All-Ohio.
Between the two teams, only one senior, Houchens, will compete as neither team was senior-led all season.
Frum, like Maas, said this meet will be used more for the experience than any other reason.
As a team
we're going there basically to run just to compete
he said. We're running in the toughest regional in the country
and so basically we're going just to size ourselves up against the other top schools in the nation.
The women's meet will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's meet will follow one hour later.
Briefly:
The Ohio cross country teams will send seven representatives to the NCAA Regional Championships this Saturday in Terre Haute Ind. Runner Andrea Maas will represent the women while runners Drew Frum, Austin Schiele, Tim Sykes, Craig Leon, Brian List and David Houchens will represent the men.
We want to leave on a good note for some of the guys to get ready for the upcoming track and field season and for the next cross country season
coach Clay Calkins said of his motivation for participating in this meet. I think everybody is raring to go and wants to set the pace for next year.
