Cross Country: Accurso ends Ohio career with third-straight All-American honors

Juli Accurso’s achievements at Ohio rattle off like a greatest hits list.

The senior crossed the finish line in 19th place Saturday at the NCAA Championship, which was her final cross country competition as a Bobcat.

“To be in the top 20 is a rare occurrence. It’s a huge honor to be there and to be in the upper echelon,” coach Clay Calkins said. “She’s as great a female distance runner as we’ve had here. We hope recruits come in and aspire to be like her.”

She completed the 6k race with a time of 20:31.5, which solidified her third-consecutive season with All-America honors, as she has competed in the race each of the past three years.

She was the lone Ohio runner to participate at the NCAA Championship.

“(Saturday) was the most fun I’ve ever had in a race in my four years. I could not be more happy with the way the season ended,” Accurso said. “I had such a great support system there with friends, family, coaches and teammates.”

Abbey D’Agostino won the race at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind., which featured 38 runners. Her winning time was 20:00.3, more than three seconds faster than the runner-up.
