Pet Instagram Review: Ginger the friendly turkey

In light of the upcoming holiday season, I decided to find a pet Instagram page that tied in with the festivities to come. A sort of mascot of Thanksgiving, turkeys are generally the first animal associated with the holiday. But this turkey won’t be anywhere near a dinner plate this Thursday.

Ginger (@ginger_the_turkey) is a rescued turkey who enjoys “classical music, philosophy, literature, vegans and organic food,” according to the page’s description. The gender of said turkey was not immediately made available. A relatively unknown account, Ginger only has around 140 followers.

Quality of Pictures

The pictures and videos all seem to be taken on a phone, but Ginger appears to be a good model. The most recent picture, as of press time, shows Ginger appreciating a scientific poster about biomes of the world. What a smart turkey. Additionally, another picture shows Ginger wearing a very nice scarf.

In a recent video, Ginger’s owner is petting his/her head, and the description says that Ginger likes to snuggle like many other animals. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving is Ginger’s least favorite holiday, and now I feel bad for the timing of this review.

Rate of Posts

Ginger only has 28 posts so far, but she appears to pop up on your feed multiple times per day. The posts only started two days ago, so that’s an average of nearly 14 posts per day at this time. This might mean we caught the beginning of an Instagram star, or maybe Ginger will always remain in the underground of pet Instagram pages.

Cuteness of Pet

Ginger is a very cute turkey. Cute enough that this page might make you feel guilty for indulging this Thanksgiving season. Whether you’re a meat-eater or vegan or anything in between, Ginger can be appreciated by any viewer.

Rating: 3/5

Although the pictures on this account aren’t high-quality, the sentiment is nice and Ginger looks like a good friend and pet to have around the house. I’m looking forward to seeing how this page progresses, as this review is taking place very early in the pet Instagram process.
