Swimming and Diving: Werner will no longer serve as coach

Ohio Athletics announced Thursday that Greg Werner will no longer serve as the Bobcats’ swimming and diving coach, despite spending the past 17 seasons at the helm of the program.

Derick Roe, who served as an assistant coach last season, will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

“We feel that we need to move the program in a different direction,” Jim Schaus, the Ohio Director of Athletics, said in a press release. “We thank Greg for all his commitment to the program and we wish him the very best in the future.”

Roe also served as the squad’s interim head coach during last weekend’s meet at Ball State, after Werner was absent for what Roe called “personal reasons.”

Werner was set to earn $77,320 this year, while Roe’s salary for the season is just $41,820.
