Ohio’s Leah Warren attempts to fake out a Central Michigan defender during the two teams’ game Saturday.

Field Hockey: Ohio travels to Davidson for first road match of the season

Ohio will play its first road match of the season Friday against Davidson after going 1-1 in its to begin its season last weekend.

Here’s the information for this weekend’s match:

Opponent: Davidson Wildcats

Match Location: Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field in Davidson, North Carolina

Match Date: Sept. 6. at 6 p.m.

Opponent’s Current Record: 0-2

How to watch: Streamed on ESPN+

Whats happened so far:

The Bobcats split their first two matches this season, beating Drexel 4-2 last Friday and losing to #23 Boston last Saturday. Both were home matches for Ohio.

Match information:

The last time Ohio faced off against Davidson was on Sept. 24, 2017. The Wildcats were the home team, but the Bobcats came away with a 2-1 victory.

Ohio hopes to break two negative trends Friday: an away match losing streak from last year, and slow starts in the first half. Last season, the Bobcats were 0-7 in road matches, something that they hope to snap that streak Friday. With its current winless record, Davidson should will a quality opportunity for Ohio.

The Bobcats will also look for a fast start. The Bobcats have been outscored 5-1 by their opponents in the first half of matches this season and have played much better in the second half, where they are 4-1. Expect Ohio to take an aggressive approach Friday to take control of its opponent in the first half.

After the first two matches, Ohio’s leading scorer is junior Leah Warren with two goals, followed by redshirt senior Kendall Ballard, freshman Katelyn Whittle and junior Jillian Shive, who all have one goal. With a win on Friday, the Bobcats would improve to a 2-1 record and would have their first road victory since Sept. 30, 2017 at Central Michigan.
