Men's Basketball: Fast reactions to Ohio's win over Marshall

Another home game, another close shave for Ohio.

The Bobcats (8-2) kept their winning streak at home alive when they defeated Marshall 75-65 on Wednesday. Despite a late-game rally from the Thundering Herd, the Bobcats kept them at bay and managed to secure their sixth-straight home win.

Here are a few quick reactions to Ohio’s 75-65 win over Marshall:

Bad start for shooting

For the first 10 minutes, Ohio usual stability when shooting the ball faded. It missed 11 of its first 17 field goal attempts, and went through a six-minute stretch in which it couldn’t sink a 3-pointer. It managed to rebound before halftime, going 7-for-15 from the floor in the last 10 minutes and finding some stable footing.

Still, its shooting cost it a big lead early on. Ohio never grabbed a double digit lead until late in the first half after Marshall began to wear down.

Keeping down Kinsey

The Herd’s success this season has largely been aided by guard Taevion Kinsey, who’s scored 20 points or more in all but one game. Not against on Wednesday. Kinsey scored 15 points, his lowest since his 10-point night against Campbell on Nov. 18.

The Bobcats shut Kinsey down on the court. The junior shot just 4-for-17 from the field and gave up seven turnovers. It was Kinsey’s worst night for shooting all season, and the Bobcats took advantage of that.

The home stand continues

Ohio won its sixth consecutive home game on Wednesday. Like its win against St. Francis on Dec. 4, however, Ohio’s win felt closer than it should have. It held a double figure lead for much of the second half until Marshall went on an 8-2 run late in the second half.

The Bobcats have cut their last two home games close. If it keeps up, their unbeaten streak won’t last much longer.
