The O-Zone stands up and cheers for the Bobcats.

Football: Ohio leads MAC in attendance for fourth-straight year

Ohio had an average attendance of 21,323.

They don’t call Bobcats the “Best Fans in the MAC” for nothing.

Ohio football led the Mid-American Conference in average attendance this season, according to a report from CBS Sports.

Peden Stadium averaged 21,323 fans per game in 2015, a 4 percent increase from last year’s total. It is the fourth consecutive year Ohio has led the conference.

Ohio University students can attend athletic events for free with their student ID.

The total puts Ohio at 91st out of 128 in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Mid-American Conference opponent Eastern Michigan is last in the ranking at 128th, only averaging a mere 4,897 attendees per game. Fellow conference opponents Ball State (127), Massachusetts (125), Kent State (122) and Northern Illinois (120) also place near the bottom of the rankings.

The report from CBS revealed a decline in college football attendance for the fifth consecutive year. This year’s average game attendance total of 43,288 was the lowest since 2000.
