7 of the most iconic kisses to hit the big screen in recent years

Whether you’re into romantic comedies or action movies, there is a good chance you’ve seen plenty of on-camera smooching in your lifetime. Thursday was National Kissing Day so here is a look at seven of the best kisses that graced the big screen.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in The Notebook — Nicholas Sparks’ novels include an ample of amount of romance and kissing, which is carried over to film adaptations. The Notebook gave unrealistic expectations of what it’s like to kiss in the rain. The scene in the movie is steamy, but in real life, it’s probably not as romantic. Still, lovers everywhere try to reenact the kiss — and probably catch a cold in the meantime.

Tobey MaGuire and Kirsten Dunst in Spider-Man — Here is another kiss that looked more romantic than the act. After Spider-Man (MaGuire) saves M.J. (Dunst) from some guys, she thanks him by pulling down his mask and giving him a big ‘ole kiss on the lips. There was also rain involved in this one, which made the scene quite uncomfortable for MaGuire.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in Titanic — Jack (DiCaprio) was able to hold on tight to Rose (Winslet) up until the boat sank. Nonetheless, the couple has been an inspiration for people everywhere, proving you can’t choose who you fall in love with.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth in The Last Song — The real-life couple shared their first kiss on the set of the 2010 film. The movie is based on — yup, you guessed it — a Nicholas Sparks novel. The kiss is full of passion, and the shot is beautiful. Honestly, that kiss is what perfection looks like.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain — We are glad Ledger was unable to “quit” Gyllenhaal. The secret romance between the two ranchers was full of longing and passion — two ingredients that made for some good kissing.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades of Grey — Whether you like the Fifty Shades series or not, you have to admit that elevator scene was pretty hot. But, similar to other kisses on this list, it might give false expectations of what it’s like to make out in an elevator. The first rule: Make sure the elevator is empty.

Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray in A Cinderella Story — This one is my personal favorite. Hilary Duff plays a high school nobody who starts instant messaging Chad Michael Murray’s character. His character finally realizes he wants to be with her and leaves in the middle of his football game, giving way to one of the best lines in the movie: “I’m sorry I waited for the rain.” Swoon.
