Facebook is testing a dating service; Athens reacts to recent sexual assaults

Today is Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. Here’s what you need to know:

Good morning,

Facebook has begun to test its online-dating service, Dating, in Colombia, according to Wired. In Dating, swiping is not an option, like popular dating apps such as Bumble and Tinder. Users create separate profiles for the service. The only information that is taken from the user’s Facebook account is the age and first name, the rest needs to be filled out manually.

Other information can be added such as height, job title, religion, etc. Users can even add pictures and answer questions to have displayed on their profiles. After the profile is created, Facebook will then use a “unique algorithm” based on things in common and mutual friends to find matches. Another feature of the service is that users can choose to match with people who will be attending the same events as them or in the same groups as them, too.
