UNC Asheville notes
In terms of early resume, UNC Asheville’s first game was similar to Ohio’s. Against No. 2 Alabama, UNC Asheville didn’t play its best, resulting in an early loss where it was dominated for all 40 minutes of the game.
Dissimilar to Ohio, UNC Asheville enters the 2024-25 season with a lot of roster turnover. Most notably, two-time High Point Player of the Year Drew Pember graduated following the 2023-24 season.
Notable returners for UNC Asheville are Josh Banks and Fletcher Abee. Each can be expected to impact Saturday’s game. Banks, who played in every game for UNC Asheville last season, was named to the preseason All-High Point Second Team.
Ohio notes
Ohio is off to a 0-1 start after a loss to James Madison to begin its season Monday. Despite the loss, the Bobcats showed promise in the late stages of their first game by outscoring the Dukes 52-47 in the second half.
Aidan Hadaway and Jackson Paveletzke led Ohio in scoring in game one with 17 and 16 points, respectively. The Bobcats will be looking for a bounce-back game out of its preseason All-MAC selectee AJ Clayton, who struggled in game one with only 8 points.
Player to watch: Jordan Marsh
Sophomore Jordan Marsh was a bright spot in UNC Ashville’s blowout loss against Alabama. Making his second career start, the underclassman scored a team-leading 13 points on 6-17 shooting. Marsh seems to be a big part of the early season game plan for UNC Asheville, which is something to watch for Ohio coming in.
