Ohio faced Clarion for its first dual match of the season but could not pull through and lost 25-12 in Tippin Gym on Friday night.
One positive the Bobcats can take away from Friday’s match is that freshmen Sal Perrine, who is ranked 28th in his weight class on InterMat, and Zayne Lehman continued to impress with a 12-5 win in the 174-pound match and an 8-0 win in the 184-pound match, respectively. Lehman had Ohio’s only major decision victory on the night.
In the remaining matches, the Bobcats took two other victories. Redshirt junior Giovanni DiSabato won 9-3 in the 133-pound match via takedown against Alex Blake. DiSabato looks to take his strong start into dual matches after earning a first and fifth place finish in the tournaments at the beginning of the season. He will also look to take more of a leadership role for Ohio, as he is one of the most consistent and experienced wrestlers the Bobcats have.
The last victory that the Bobcats took Friday night was in the 157-pound match. Redshirt sophomore Jordan Slivka, who is ranked 26th in the nation for his weight class on InterMat rankings, defeating Kolby Ho. The win could help catapult Slivka into the top-20 after a strong performance.
