Everyone who watches The Good Place knows that Chidi (William Jackson Harper) and Eleanor (Kristen Bell) are the best couple. Yet ever since they were placed back on Earth, it seems someone is standing in the way of the Cheleanor romance.
While Michael (Ted Danson) is watching Chidi and Eleanor continuously fall back into their old habits, he realizes that the reason they were so well behaved in the Good Place was because they were together. That prompts Michael to go down to Earth and give Chidi and Eleanor a push in the right direction toward each other. After talking with Michael, Eleanor flies to Australia where she asks Chidi to give her lessons in becoming a better person.
While Eleanor is receiving these lessons she realizes that season three’s newest character, Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), has the hots for Chidi. Eleanor, being herself, begins to meddle and teases Chidi about asking her out.
“You and Simone have some real professor/dork vibes flowing,” Eleanor said. “You’re both teachers, who are hot for teacher!”
Chidi explains to Eleanor that “he can’t just do things like that” and makes her promise to drop the whole thing. Eleanor says she will, but in the next scene where Chidi is receiving an MRI for one of Simone’s experiments, she begins talking to Simone about Chidi.
“So you’re into Chidi, right?” Eleanor asked Simone.
Simone explains that she has strong feelings for Chidi and has tried to express them to him, but he isn’t taking her hints and keeps blowing her off. This prompts Eleanor to hijack Simone’s experiment and cunningly force Chidi to admit his feelings for Simone by asking Chidi questions about Simone instead of the questions he was supposed to be answering for the experiment. After a series of questions regarding Simone, Eleanor finally wears Chidi down.
“There’s only one question left and you’ve got to ask it, bud,” Eleanor said to Chidi, who is stuck in the MRI machine.
“Simone, would you like to have dinner with me?” Chidi asked finally, after knowing her for a year.
To this Simone answers yes, much to the dismay of Michael who is a strict Cheleanor shipper.
Honestly, this new couple makes sense because there always seems to be some obstacle that keeps Chidi and Eleanor from being together. After realizing their feelings for each other in season two audience members thought that Cheleanor would finally be together, but when they were put on Earth their memories were swiped, which allowed room for the Simone roadblock. This obstacle may be the worst yet, as it has viewers in a very controversial war. Some are angered because they are strictly team Cheleanor and some surprised at how much they ship Chimone.
