Women's Basketball: Ohio beats Indiana State for first win of the season

Ohio was victorious for the first time this season, as it beat Indiana State, 74-62. After four tough losses to begin the season, Ohio needed a win under its belt to build confidence as nonconference play continues.

The Bobcats got off to an early lead Saturday and led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter. Five of the seven field goals they made in the first quarter were 3-pointers. This was opposite from the Sycamores, as more than half of their attempts were from close range.

Both teams struggled in the second quarter, as only 25 total points were scored. However, the Bobcats maintained their lead going into the half as they led 36-32.

After halftime, Ohio came out aggressive. It went 10-for-15 from the field and made half of the 3-pointers it took. Ohio outpaced Indiana State and went up by nine points to end the third quarter.

The Sycamores tried to even the game in a hurry, but were unsuccessful. They did not make a single 3-pointer in the final quarter. The Bobcats held off every other push the Sycamores made to finalize their first victory.

Ohio starters Caitlyn Kroll and Yaya Felder both scored in double figures Saturday with 19 and 15 points, respectively. Felder also added nine rebounds, almost notching her first double-double of the season. Sophomore Kendall Hale and freshman Jaya McClure added 16 and 11 points to combine for all 27 of Ohio’s bench points. The points off the bench were a much needed boost for Ohio to get the victory.
