The new interim dean of Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions was named Wednesday by Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs.
John McCarthy will be acting as the interim dean for the college after current dean Randy Leite announced he will be stepping down this month.
McCarthy has been at OU since 2004 and is currently a professor of communication sciences and disorders, as well as associate dean of research in the College of Health Sciences and Professions. He has been involved with research efforts in addition to teaching and has recently been part of a project “to improve cultural competency and reduce implicit bias in health care workers using virtual reality,” according to a university news release.
McCarthy was also elected distinguished fellow of the National Academies of Practices in Speech-Language Pathology.
“I am confident that John will provide strong leadership that supports continued advancement in teaching, research and scholarship, innovative academic programs, and community engagement over the next 18 months,” Sayrs said in the release.
