This is our last Throwback Thursday of the semester, dear readers. It’s a snapshot of a student dance in Old Baker Center to mark the beginning of finals season in 1961. The students pictured here are enjoying a little relaxation before test time, and we hope all of you get some time to yourselves before buckling down, too. You don’t have to slow dance, though.
The photo was credited to “Webb,” but there was no first name to be found for the photographer. Thanks, Webb, whoever you are! Here’s the photo’s original caption:
“Ca’Mon Ya’all... echoed as students took a pre-finals break at Dogpatch USA, an all-campus dance held Saturday night at the Baker Center Ballroom. Music was furnished by the Holidays and refreshments were served.”
The photo appeared on the third page of the newspaper above a small box containing a special message from the staff:
“Attention: This is the last edition of The Post until September. The members of The Post staff wish everyone good luck in finals and hope that all will have a good vacation between now and the beginning of the next term. To those who are graduating, congratulations are extended with the best wishes to those who will be starting new jobs.”
Well, today’s is the second-to-last edition of The Post and we’ll be back in August instead of September, but the general sentiment remains the same. Thanks for sticking with us this year. We’ll be seeing you again soon.
