BedPost: Making the best of Valentine's Day

It’s Valentine's Day, and whether you are single or in a relationship, this holiday causes many people to worry about what they will do to celebrate.

Singles, if you have spent the year in search for the perfect Valentine's date to the bars, do not worry. You still have time to snag the cutie from class you have been chatting up. If you don't have your eye on anyone, establish a new friendship. Yes, Valentine's Day is meant for romance, but instead of having a drunken hookup after the bars, a time spent with some friends can provide enough gratification to make it through the holiday.

If you are in a relationship and are stumped for plans, you have many options, from fast food to Netflix, going to the bars together for “Thirsty Thursday,” or a fancy dinner from your favorite restaurant. Regardless, your partner likely expects some kind of gesture or date this holiday season. Something as small as a card, flower and quality time will make your partner feel loved and appreciated. Are flowers overrated? Yes, probably, but they still are beautiful and underutilized. Make sure you express yourself and your true feelings for your partner. If your true feelings are not so positive, don’t end the relationship on the holiday unless vitally necessary. End things before the holiday to avoid an awkward gift-giving or -receiving experience.

Treating yourself, regardless of your relationship status, can make you feel more confident for the holiday. Self-care makes anyone feel good, so get a haircut and/or nails done. Do a face mask or drink red wine and cook dinner for yourself, your friends or your partner. Do not forget Feb. 14 is just another day of the year, and you do not have to treat it like a holiday if you don't want to.

Valentine's Day is great to spice up your sex life, so try out those new sex positions you have seen in the Kama Sutra. Use the guise of the holiday to share your kinks with your partner with the hopes of finding something you can both enjoy.

If you are single, I highly suggest to treat yourself to a new, or even your first sex toy. A vibrator or a fleshlight can change your life. Do not be embarrassed — you can get all types discreetly delivered to your home via Amazon Prime, just in time to have a pleasant V-day at home with yourself. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need a partner to spice up your sex life. Take the situation into your own hands. When in doubt, wank it out.
