Athens County reported 66 new COVID-19 cases last week, bringing the total case count to 4,874. One hundred and forty cases are presumed active as of Monday as the county remains in the red zone for virus exposure and spread.
Three people were hospitalized due to the COVID-19 last week, and one new death was reported. The death toll in Athens County currently stands at 53.
So far, 7,435 Athens residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine through the Athens City-County Health Department, while 5,044 are fully vaccinated. Ohio continues to vaccinate those ages 16 and older.

OU is pushing for students to receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to avoid the hassle of a second appointment and vaccinate as many students as possible before summer.
Cases among OU students remain low, with a reported 0.4% daily positivity rate reported March 31. All 29 residence halls are at the lowest alert level for virus spread and exposure, reporting 0.0% seven-day positivity rates as of March 29.
Quarantine and Isolation spaces on campus are at 1.54% and 5.88% capacity, respectively.
