Ohio University’s Board of Elections will talk with Student Senate’s presidential candidates in the next step of the organization’s election season.
All three candidates will attend the debate — Zainab Kandeh on the Action ticket, Jordan Ballinger, One and Megan Marzec, Restart.
The debate will be moderated by Jareed Robinson, a senior studying business, and time will be kept by Samantha Stults, also a senior studying business.
Both are board members who volunteered for their roles.
The debate will last one hour. The board has a list of questions for the candidates, but students can also submit questions on a notecard provided at the event, said Evan Wilkof, board chairman.
Candidates will each get three minutes for opening and closing statements and 90 seconds to answer questions. Candidates can have 30 seconds for a rebuttal if they choose to respond, Wilkof said.
The debate will be the first time students get the opportunity to speak with the candidates face to face and it is important students attend the debate, said current Student Senate President Anna Morton.
“It’s a good opener to get the candidates out there to talk about their platforms,” she said.
All three presidential candidates said they are looking forward to the debate.
“I’m excited to get my views out there and talking to people,” Kandeh said. “I’m ready to tell people why Action is the ticket to vote for.”
Ballinger said he is excited to interact with the two other presidential candidates.
“I’m looking forward to having a productive conversation with the other candidates from Restart and Action,” he said.
Another candidate said she hopes the debate is helpful to students.
“I hope that students take away the big differences in the platforms and in the candidates ourselves,” Marzec said.
