ONA awards honor past Posties
COLUMBUS — The Post took home an award in almost every Ohio Newspaper Association collegiate category at the organization’s conference on Wednesday.
The Post, which competes against other student newspapers in the state with similar circulation sizes, won first place for its design and for arts and entertainment coverage.
A Post Modern on pornography, which analyzed people’s interest in the subject, won first place in the arts and entertainment category and was awarded to Jim Ryan, projects editor at the time, William Hoffman, former assistant culture editor, and Sophie Kruse, a columnist.
Jake Newton, design editor, and David Sebo, assistant design editor, won first for their front-page designs.
Post staff members took second place for their headline writing and third place for their news coverage.
The sports staff, led by Chad Lindskog, won third place for its sports coverage. Last year’s editorial board — consisting of Ryan Clark, then editor-in-chief, Nicolien Buholzer, former managing editor, Jim Ryan, and Haylee Pearl and Brandon Carte, who were both associate editors — took third place for its editorial writing.
The Post also placed third in investigative journalism for its “Health Care in the Hills” series, led by Joshua Jamerson, former local editor, that examined how the new health care law would affect Southeast Ohio.
The Post also came in third for its new website, thepostathens.com. The Post recently transitioned to a new site and created a staff to foster its development.
