With NCAA regionals looming in its schedule and Mid-American Conference Championships in the rearview, Ohio is in the midst of the toughest part of its season.
In a race consisting of the MAC’s best, Ohio junior Juli Accurso claimed her second-straight conference crown, besting the field by 20 seconds.
Her performance propelled the Bobcats to a third-place finish, their best since 2008. Consistency was key to the meet as Toledo took first place behind five top-10 finishes.
“Juli performed quite well, very solid in the meet,” said Ohio coach Clay Calkins.
Accurso was named first team all-MAC for her performance, while sophomore Morgan Reichert and junior Melissa Thompson, who finished ninth and 12th, respectively, were named to the conference’s second team.
The men’s cross country team finished seventh, ahead of only Toledo and Bowling Green on Saturday.
“We had hoped for more success today, but our captain, Tyler Ames, led the way and Jake Stephens also performed well,” Calkins said.
Ames, a senior who placed 19th overall, was Ohio’s top finisher. Stephens, a sophomore, finished 33rd.
Calkins said that the Bobcats have plenty of room to improve heading into NCAA Regionals, which will take place on Nov. 9 in Madison, Wis.
