The Athens City-County Health Department, or ACCHD, recorded another COVID-19 related death Tuesday, bringing the total count to 65 in the county.
Athens County is currently in the red zone for the Ohio Public Health Advisory System, which indicates very high levels of COVID-19 exposure and spread.
There are currently 956 COVID-19 cases presumed to be active, slightly down from over 1,000 cases Sept. 14. On Ohio University’s Athens campus, there are 520 presumed active cases within the 0–29 age range, according to OU’s COVID-19 Dashboard.
The county reported 51 new cases Tuesday and seven COVID-19 related hospitalizations since Sept. 7.
As of Sept. 21, 46.4% of Athens residents have at least started the vaccination process, with 43.2% fully vaccinated, according to the ACCHD.
OU reported a 2.2% seven day average positivity rate among students and employees, as of Sept. 18.
13 of the university’s 35 residence halls are currently at the orange alert level, which indicates that between 0.1% and 4.9% of residents have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past seven days.
