Thursday’s episode of Supernatural was business as usual. If you couldn’t watch the episode live, here’s what you missed:
Dean has a head injury
In the last episode, John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) time traveled to the present for an emotional episode.
This week’s episode picks back up with Michael’s plot arc. Rowena (Ruth Connell) teams up with Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), Cas (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alexander Calvert) to kill a gorgon, a demigod that has characteristics of a snake and eats human flesh.
After acquiring snake antivenom to cure any victims in the process, the gang tracks the gorgon, Noah (Philippe Bowgen) down. Even though four against one isn’t a fair fight, Noah can hold his own and smashes Dean’s head into a wall, causing turbulence with Michael and a head injury.
Back at the bunker, Dean comes to and realizes that Michael is gone.
Michael dies
After Dean slathers on the guilt and self-loathing, the gang runs toward screams in the central meeting room of the bunker. The hunters that Sam primarily recruited from the Apocalypse world are all on the floor dead and Maggie (Katherine Evans)’s eyes are burned out.
Michael escapes Dean’s mind and possesses Rowena. He temporarily chokes, blinds and causes general pain to Sam, Dean and Cas, leaving Jack to feel helpless and angry. Jack uses his power as an archangel and throw’s Michael off his game until Jack is close enough to expel Michael from Rowena. Jack swallows Michael’s grace and accepts it as his, leaving Michael dead — at least according to Jack.
The show is no stranger to mysterious resurrections of deaths, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Michael came back, but this feels final. Michael causes Dean great pain and guilt, so having him dead would be a win. If Michael does come back, it would be with Jack.
Jack is at full speed
When Jack swallowed the grace, he becomes him again. His eyes glow yellow and the black super wings cast a shadow, reminding the audience that he is Lucifer’s son. Jack has his power back, meaning he’s healthy. He’s also powerful and an acting archangel. When Jack was sick, he felt hopeless and incapable of purpose. Hopefully now that he has his power back, he can find meaning with the gang.
