Led by Kiyanna Black's 29 points, Ohio beat Bowling Green to secure the MAC regular season title with one game remaining.
History was sealed during coach Bob Boldon’s postgame radio interview.
After a 75-58 win over Bowling Green and Toledo's upset over Central Michigan, the Ohio Bobcats won the Mid-American Conference regular season title in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
The Ohio win also secures the No. 1 seed for the Bobcats at the MAC Tournament in 10 days in Cleveland.
“It’s really nice to see this moment,” Boldon said as his team lined up to cut down the nets inside The Convo. “These kids worked really hard to get here, had a target on their back all year. It’s nice to see them get to experience this.”
Kiyanna Black, the second-highest scorer in program history, finished her last game in The Convo with 29 points —22 of which came in the second half.
Black, who entered Wednesday night averaging 18.7 points per game, deserves MAC Player of the Year, according to her coach.
“She was awesome, yes,” Boldon said, asked if she deserved the honor. “She’s been the heart and soul of this team.
“Obviously, she scores a bunch of points. When the points come is just as valuable, and she’s done that for us since I’ve been here.”
The Bobcats close the regular season Saturday at Miami.
