The only thing pleasant about Ohio’s midweek matchup with Central Michigan was the host city’s name.
The Bobcats (9-12, 2-5 Mid-American Conference) lost 67-53 to Central Michigan (12-9,4-3 MAC) Wednesday night in Mount Pleasant, Mich., and at least two players lost their cool in the process.
After returning to the court from a knee injury, forward Porsha Harris might be watching more games from the sideline and have plenty of time to get completely healthy after she was quickly ejected for her role in an on-court altercation that cleared both benches.
With 11:08 remaining in the first half, Harris and Chippewas’ forward Jas’Mine Bracey ended up exchanging punches. Coaches and players came onto the court to break up the altercation.
Harris and Bracey were both ejected from the contest.
Before the game got physical, Central Michigan scored 15 straight points during an eight-minute span to push its lead to 17-4. Freshman guard Mariah Byard made a 3-pointer to end the Chippewas’ run, but that was her only basket on 10 attempts from the field.
Ohio’s shooting woes continued against Central Michigan as the Bobcats shot only 29 percent from the field in the game. Ohio is shooting 37 percent on the season.
Shavon Robinson and Tenishia Benson supplied the most offense for the Bobcats. Though neither player shot well, both finished in double figures and combined for 26 points.
Four players scored in double figures for the Chippewas. Taylor Johnson scored 16 points to lead all scorers, and Crystal Bradford contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds.
No coaches, players or personnel from either team were made available for comment on the game or the altercation.
