APD responded Tuesday to attempted armed robbery

The apparent subject, Thaddeus D. Basham, shares a last name with an Ohio football player — but the university could not immediately confirm any relation.

11:31 a.m. Athens Police Lt. Jeff McCall confirmed to The Post Thaddeus D. Basham is related to Ohio football sophomore defensive lineman Tarell Basham, although he could not confirm what their relation is.

Late Tuesday night, Athens Police officers responded to the fourth floor of Courtside Apartments, 85 N. Court St., after hearing that a man wielding a gun was being held down by multiple subjects.

Thaddeus D. Basham and another man had allegedly attempted to rob a third man, according to an APD report released late Wednesday morning.

APD officers reported finding the victim with blood on his nose and "abrasions/swelling to his face," according to the report.

Basham was taken into custody by a pair of APD officers. A black pistol was found nearby, on top of a green Ohio University knit hat, according to the report.

Reached by The Post on Wednesday afternoon, an Ohio Athletics spokeswoman could not immediately confirm if Thaddeus D. Basham has any relation to Tarell Basham, Ohio football sophomore defensive lineman.

Charged with aggravated robbery, Basham was booked into the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

As of 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Basham was being held on a $100,000 cash surety bond, with a court date scheduled for Nov. 25.
