Ohio swimming and diving finished sixth out of eight teams at the MAC Championships.
Ohio came up short at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Previously, Bobcat coach Rachel Komisarz-Baugh was confident her team could finish third in the competition. Ohio, however, finished sixth with Akron finishing first after the four-day event.
Ohio earned 356.5 points of the 3,449 total points. Akron finished with 773.5 points, topping Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Buffalo and Miami. Ohio, Toledo and Ball State rounded out the bottom three spots.
Despite falling short, Komisarz-Baugh said she was proud of her team who had 31 personal best times at the MAC Championships held at Bowling Green.
"I'm very proud of what they did. Do I think we can do more? Yeah," Komisarz-Baugh said. "But, we have to celebrate the little victories."
Even though the team finished lower than expected, the Bobcats are still making progress.
Individually, Corrin Van Lanen, Laura Dawson and Addison Ferguson qualifed for NCAA championships at the B-cut.
Van Lanen was named to the first team All-MAC squad and Dawson and Ferguson earned second team All-MAC honors for their respected performances.
Van Lanen is reaching this mark as just a freshman.
"Doing that as a freshman, how solid she's been, and the progress she made, we know her hard work paid off," Komisarz-Baugh said.

The three swimmers will swim at the NCAA championships starting March 17 in Atlanta.
On the diving side, Haleigh Bartlett and Olivia Dillion will dive at NCAA competition starting March 10 at Purdue. The two had previous qualified before MAC championships began.
Komisarz-Baugh said the program is still in a rebuilding progress and that it will take time to reach success.
Komisarz-Baugh is only in her second season in Athens and still has recruits from when former coach Greg Werner was head coach. Werner was fired during the 2014 season after 18 seasons with the Bobcats and what has ensued has been a rebuilding process for Ohio.
A previous version of the story had the final score as 356.5 and said that, "individually, Corrin Van Lanen, Laura Dawson and Addison Ferguson qualified for NCAA championships at the B-cut." While Van Lanen, Dawson and Ferguson made the b-cut, it does not necessarily mean that they automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship.
