The leak has caused Biddle, Bush, Gamertsfelder and Perkins halls to not have hot water. Jefferson Hall will remain without power until further notice.
Update 5:45 p.m. : Sunday afternoon, a university press release said power has been restored to Jefferson Hall and CATvision is back up and running.
A later press release said hot water has been restored to the buildings on East Green lacking it earlier on Sunday. Though those issues were taken care of, a problem arose with the air handler in Jefferson Hall, which is part of the building’s heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system.
“Jefferson has an air handler down because of blown fuses. Crews will continue to work on air handler,” according to the university.
Update 2:18 p.m. : Sunday afternoon the university informed students by email that the flooding caused by the water leak will also affect CATVision cable television service to East and South Green.
“CATVision will remain offline to those portions of campus until power can be restored to Jefferson Hall and CATVision personnel can assess the condition of video distribution equipment in the (utility tunnel which is flooded),” according to the email.
An alert from the university also updated students on the issue of power and hot water.
“Officials estimate that power will be restored to Jefferson Hall before 3 p.m. and hot water will be restored to all residence halls before 6 p.m. today,” according to the university.

On Sunday morning, some Ohio University students woke up to a room without power, a shower without warm water and a car in a garage without access to get out.
Mac Stricklen, assistant director of Housing and Residence Life, notified students in two emails Sunday morning of a water leak causing all the problems.
Due to the leak, Jefferson Hall is without electrical power, and East Green has a lack of hot water. The garage under Jefferson Hall has restricted access, as well, Stricklen said in one email.
As of 1 p.m., the source of the leak has been located and isolated, according to a university alert. Biddle, Bush, Gamertsfelder and Perkins halls do not have hot water, and Jefferson Hall will remain without power until further notice.

“The leak has caused there to be standing water in Jefferson Garage,” according to one email from Stricklen. “Due to the presence of electrical equipment in the affected area, the Ohio University Police Department as well as Facilities Management have advised as a safety measure that no one enter the garage at this time.”
The lack of power and cold water is not new to OU students.
Just living the Amish life once again here in Jeff hall with no power/hot water/heat @ohiou

Earlier this week, students in East Green residence halls were experiencing a lack of hot water.
@ohiou you do a terrible job of warning your students when there will be no electricity, no wifi, and freezing showers. Please do better

Electrical problems have affected other parts of OU’s campus before, including last semester a power outage affected at least 31 university buildings.
As for the situation affecting students today, Stricklen said in an email: “University personnel are currently working to remedy this situation.”
