The Bobcats will be back in action Thursday for a doubleheader at Marshall.
Ohio’s season hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.
After winning the Mid-American Conference Tournament last season, injuries have plagued the Bobcats and the potential of their season.
Ohio (5-17) was picked first in MAC preseason coaches’ poll, following its run to the NCAA Tournament a year ago and received half of all votes to win the MAC Tournament.
With the injury of pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey, however, Ohio’s pitching and defense has struggled — sacrificing 46 combined runs in the previous five games. Almost half of those runs came during a 20-3 loss to Wright State on Tuesday.
Coach Jodi Hermanek and the Bobcats weren’t made available to The Post for comment on Wednesday.
Seniors Lauren McClary (0-10) and Kaylin Clarke (3-3) have filled the void Dorsey has left in the circle, but the Bobcats are amid their worst start since the 2009-10 season.
Freshman infielder Mikayla Cooper has led the Bobcats’ offense with four home runs and is fourth in RBIs with 10. She holds a .520 slugging percentage in 21 games.
One-run losses against Furman and Army in February could’ve helped switch the early narrative for Ohio, as the Bobcats will travel to Marshall to play a two-game series on Thursday.
The Thundering Herd is coming off a 1-2 series loss to Western Kentucky and has seen the Bobcats before.
In September, Marshall (16-8) defeated Ohio in a fall exhibition match 9-7, behind Raquel Escareno’s four RBIs. The teams split last year’s series in Huntington.
The series will be the final away slate for the Bobcats before their home opener on Saturday against Niagara. The Bobcats are 0-11 in away games this season.
With four games set until Mid-American Conference play, the Bobcats are hopeful to turn their season around even if it hasn’t been their best start.
