TV Review: Thursday’s episode of ‘The Good Place’ is full of emotional family drama

The Good Place is notorious for its comedy, but Thursday night’s episode took a more emotional and serious side.

Eleanor (Kristen Bell) and Michael (Ted Danson) go to find Eleanor’s mother (Leslie Grossman), who she recently found out was alive. The whole trip is to try to get her on track for the good place, but they quickly find out that she has changed on her own. However, Eleanor is skeptical and keeps digging for dirt that will get her mom busted.

Eleanor has an emotional scene where she confesses to Michael that she is trying to crack down on her mom because she doesn’t want to accept that she’s changing.

“I wanted that mom,” Eleanor said. “It’s not fair that Patricia gets that mom.”

However, in typical Eleanor fashion, she takes the high road and makes up with her mom.

Meanwhile, Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Jason (Manny Jacinto), Chidi (William Jackson Harper) and Janet (D’Arcy Carden) go to visit Tahani’s sister, Kamilah (Rebecca Hazlewood) and try to get her on track for the good place.

For the day-one fans of the show, everyone knows that Tahani and her sister have been at odds their whole lives. Kamilah was even part of the reason that Tahani died, because of her outburst at one of Kamilah’s events. Tahani can’t bring herself to be the bigger person, and has the police called on her because she tries to destroy the event.

What they didn’t realize was that all of this sibling rivalry was due to their parents and the idea of competition that was instilled in them since they were young children. Tahani finally realizes this after looking at all of Kamilah’s paintings and seeing that the two objects together and distanced in every painting was meant to represent the two of them.

Tahani finally brings herself to be the biggest person and make up with Kamilah once and for all.

“I’m sorry our parents were such wankers,” Tahani said while embracing Kamilah through handcuffs.

The moment proved to be one of the sweeter and more emotional moments on The Good Place, following the theme of this episode.
