In a press conference Thursday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced a new incentive program being launched in regard to COVID-19 vaccinations.
The program, titled “Vax to School,” is similar to the “Vax-a-million” incentive program launched earlier this year, he said. Ohioans aged 12 to 25 are only at a first-dose vaccination rate of 46% and as such are eligible for the program.
“This age group has the most room to grow in terms of getting vaccinated and, with the Delta variant in our midst, is a group that we are concerned, frankly, will miss in-classroom learning opportunities,” Dewine said at the conference.
Keeping students in school is a top priority for his administration, DeWine said. The program offers five $100,000 scholarships to be used for furthering education and 50 $10,000 scholarships to be used for the same purpose. “Further education” is not limited to a four year college, he said.
Any vaccinated Ohioan from ages 12 to 25 is eligible for the program, including those previously vaccinated.
