The Bobcats continued their tradition of winning the Ohio Open this year.
Ohio won 10 of the 21 events Saturday at Goldsberry Track en route to the win at its home track meet.
Many of Ohio’s top athletes rested Saturday with the Mid-American Conference Championships a week away. But the athletes that did compete were joined by many of their teammates at the top of the standings.
In the 1,500-meter run, Juli Accurso finished in first place with a time of 4 minutes, 34 seconds. Teammates Annie Beecham, Kari Summers and Emily Pifer finished second, third and fourth, respectively.
The Bobcats secured four of the top five spots in the 400-meter dash. Sophomore Danielle Winningham won the event with a time of 56 seconds.
Kiley Mathews, Hope McCarty and Brittany Tyree rounded out the rest of the top five spots.
The 100-meter dash produced similar results.
Kaylah Howard ran the race in 13.17 seconds to put her in the top spot. Shareyna Spears tied for second and Katie Eastman and Miranda Richardson took fourth and fifth place.
McCarty and Tyree notched top spots in the standings in other events as well.
They tied for first in the high jump with a mark of 1.53 meters. McCarty finished in third in the javelin and Tyree took fifth.
Before the meet, Coach Clay Calkins said that his throwers would be going “full tilt.” In all of the throwing events, no fewer than three Bobcats competed.
Freshman Emily Woods won the discus with a throw of 43 meters. She added a fourth place finish in the shot put.
Sophomore Lauren McCullough finished second in the javelin with a throw of 38
meters. She also notched a fourth place finish in the hammer throw.
