Kiser's BBQ coming to Court St. in Athens

Ohio University students looking to suppress a hankering for the down-home taste of barbeque soon won’t have to leave the friendly confines of Court Street.

Kiser’s Barbeque is set to open its third location in the former Quiznos location, 42 S. Court St., at the start of next month.

Predicting a huge turnout from students who otherwise may not have been able to make a trip to the locations in The Plains or at 1002 E. State St., Sean Kiser, owner of the restaurant, said the expansion will be a great addition for his “overall company.”

Despite a new audience, the branch on Court Street won't apply for liquor licenses as the restaurant will be “more of fast-serve, in-and-out place like Subway or Chipotle,” Kiser said

.

Kiser got a liquor license for his Plains location in January.

OU students hoping to hit up Kiser’s after spilling out of Uptown bars late at night might have to wait. Daily operating hours of the restaurant will likely be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Kiser said, though he’s open to keeping his new barbecue joint open late if he sees a

demand.

Kiser's employment will depend on that demand, as well.

He

said the restaurant is planning to hire seven to 10 employees as business gets going. More may be added as needed, he said.

Meanwhile for those students and faculty in Athens this summer, Kiser’s Barbeque at Eclipse will be hosting its first Kiser’s Jammin’ Hog Music & BBQ Festival this weekend.

The three-day event will be held from July 11th to 13th at Kiser’s location in The Plains, and will feature various musicians including Shirley King, as well as a barbecue buffet.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the door, either current Kiser's location or by searching “Kiser’s” on www.eventbrite.com.

Admission is $16.95.
