Ohio University notified students set to live in certain dorms Monday that they have the opportunity to seek off-campus housing and have their housing contracts canceled for the upcoming Spring Semester.
For Fall Semester, students who were not a part of OU’s phased return were not allowed to seek off-campus housing, according to a previous Post report. Now, due to the high number of students anticipated to return to campus as part of Spring Semester plans, OU needs more isolation and quarantine dorms available and will grant students a one-term housing exemption.
Adams, Luchs, Sowle and 4 University Terrace residents received an email from Housing and Residence Life informing them those halls will be used for either quarantine or isolation. Students who were set to live in those halls can choose to stay home for Spring Semester or seek alternative housing on or off-campus.
Students who want to return to Athens in the spring must complete the “Decision for Spring Semester Return” by Nov. 30, according to the email. Options on the form include requesting a new room assignment with or without roommates in a similar-style building, requesting a new room assignment with or without a roommate anywhere on campus or requesting a semester exemption to live off-campus in Athens for the final term of the two-year residency requirement.
If students choose to remain at home, they must update their “Spring Housing Confirmation” form to reflect they will be staying at a parent or legal guardian’s permanent residence for the semester.
If a student chooses to live at home or receives an exemption to live off-campus, their housing contract will be canceled by Dec. 2, according to the email. Deposit refunds will also be given.
Students who request a new dorm assignment will be notified of their reassignment by Dec. 15.
