D.P. Dough, a well-known, Columbus-based calzone franchise, will open a location on Court Street this fall, its second Athens location.
There isn’t a specific opening date yet, said Matt Crumpton, general legal counsel for D.P. Dough, but the restaurant will be at 19 S. Court St., previously the location of Lady B’s Fried chicken.
“We really think this area will be a huge convenience for students who are uptown,“ Crumpton said. “Court Street is such a great opportunity.”
Unlike the Richland restaurant, the Court Street restaurant will also offer lunch all week, Crumpton said. As of now, the Richland location only offers lunch options on weekends.
Crumpton said he hopes the new location fuels a faster delivery system for students.
“We understand that the addition of the new location will initially take away from some profits, but it’ll catch up over time,“ he said.
The new location comes two months after the company sold to a competing calzone chain, a deal that was said to nearly double its footprint, according to a news release.
As part of the deal, owner Eric Cook planned to open additional restaurants, according to the release.
There were 26 D.P. Dough locations as of May.
