Ohio University fans aren’t the only ones who think the Marching 110 is the most exciting band in the land.
According to College Sports Fans’ website, collegesports-fans.com, the 110 outranked all college bands — including The Ohio State University’s marching band that’s known as “The Best Damn Band in the Land.”
On the site, it states that in 2007, it released the best college marching bands article, which was one of the sites top five most read articles. The staff had been discussing a revised Top 10 college bands and Burt Gressler, writer of the article, ranked college bands and chose the 110 as number on his top 10 college bands.
“I was really excited,” said Teresa Finch, a senior studying communication sciences and disorders. “I always fight with my friends at Ohio State about the band. I actually called them all and rubbed it in their faces. I love the Marching 110 — they’re amazing.”
Some students are bragging about the 110’s recent rise to the top, but others are just genuinely excited for the 110 because of all of the hard work it does.
“I think that’s really cool because they’re a really good band,” said Megan Dotson, a freshman studying history. “I enjoy watching them. They’re really good at what they do and how they perform. They go all out.”
For the Marching 110, it’s remaining humble, but it’s very appreciative that it was mentioned in this list, said Josh Boyer, assistant director for the 110.
“It’s someone’s opinion,” Boyer said. “While we’re honored, it’s unscientific, (but) it’s great to be included into that list. We feel good about it, but we’re also not in competition with these bands. We do our thing and like to do well, but we don’t consider to try to rank ourselves. Its not like football.”
Boyer said that the 110 lets its YouTube videos tell the 110’s story.
Though this list isn’t an official ranking, the Marching 110 has had many achievements.
The 110 has traveled across the globe, from performing at bowl games to Vatican City, students can say that Athens is home to the most exciting band in the land.
