Faculty at Ohio University are deeply concerned about recent events involving alleged sexual assault, alcohol and social media on our campus and in our community.
As we all work toward long-term solutions that actively involve faculty, students, staff and the community, we want to remind students to take care of themselves this weekend. Then take care of each other. Extend that care to the thousands of strangers who will be with us Saturday night—we need to watch out for their well-being, too.
Don’t be a passive bystander: If you see something that’s not right, intervene directly if it’s safe to do so, or contact someone who can intervene safely.
One voice can turn a situation around, and others will follow. We care deeply about you, and we want to be able to welcome all of you back to our classrooms on Monday—safe, healthy and ready to continue your education.
Sincerely,
Ohio University Faculty Senate Executive Committee (Elizabeth Sayrs, David Thomas, Beth Quitslund, Jackie Wolf and Sarah Wyatt), Miriam Shadis, Jaylynne Hutchinson, Judith Grant, Judith Lee, Michele Clouse, Cindy Anderson, Ben Bates (Chair, Professional Relations Committee, Faculty Senate), Tehama Lopez Bunyasi, Barbara Trube, Devika Chawla, Thom Luce, John R.
