The League of Women Voters give students information on registering to vote and the voting process.
With the general election for state and local candidates and issues, including the race for governor, occurring November 4, the League of Women Voters of Athens County reminds voters of these regulations:
In order to register to vote in Ohio, you must be a citizen of the United States, be at least 18 years of age and have lived in Ohio for at least 30 days before the election.
If you have not registered to vote, you can do so in person or by mail, as long as the Board of Elections or the Ohio Secretary of State’s office receives the registration by Oct. 6. You can obtain a voter registration form online at the website of the Ohio Secretary of State or at the Athens County Board of Elections on Court Street in Athens. If you have changed your address or your name since the last time you voted, you must update your voter registration by submitting a new voter registration form. If you have not updated your registration by Oct. 6, you can still cast a provisional ballot in this election.
All voters must present some form of current identification, which includes either a driver’s license, state or military identification card, a current utility bill, or bank statement with the voter’s name on it. Then present your address, a current paycheck, or a government check with the voter’s name on it and present the address.
You may request an absentee ballot from the Board of Elections and return the marked ballot by mail or in person before the polls close on Election Day, or have it postmarked no later than the day before the election.
You may vote early in person at the Board of Elections. For a list of other places you can register, dates and times for voting, and a full list of accepted identification, please visit the Athens County Board of Elections’ website.
The League of Women Voters of Athens County is a non-partisan organization.
