Here’s how to celebrate Galentine's Day properly

Valentine’s day may be a bore when single, but Galentine’s Day is here to help you get into the spirit of love. The idea of Galentine’s Day came from the one and only Leslie Knope in season two of Parks and Recreation, and since the holiday’s debut, people all over the world have indulged in the day to celebrate with friends. The holiday takes place the day before Valentine’s Day (Feb. 13), and includes getting together with your friends to laugh, gossip and relax.

Here are five of the best ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day:

Brunch

In the spirit of Leslie Knope, take all of your friends out to brunch or make brunch yourself. Find a dinner or brunch spot to eat amazing food and have fun with your friends. Though going to your favorite brunch spot can be fun, nothing says I love you like a homemade brunch to lay low with your friends. Find a cute heart-shaped waffle maker, get fresh fruit and make smoothies to celebrate the day.

Spa day

Having a relaxing spa day and staying in is the perfect way to commemorate the day. Make sure to dress in your comfiest clothes, buy face masks and give each other manicures. It is the perfect way to catch up and gossip with your group. If your friend group plans to exchange gifts, consider a beauty swap. Purchase your go-to beauty product to trade out for something new.

Bake and decorate cookies

Another fun and easy activity is to bake sweet treats. Feel free to decorate the cookies for each other or yourself, but make sure they are delicious. Decorating cookies is a great way to show someone you love them by putting kind words on them, or just baking them in general. Having the downtime while they bake and decorate means you have ample amount of time to chat. Make sure to share the leftover dough with everyone.

Go to dinner

If brunch is not on the agenda for Galentine’s Day this year, consider getting together for dinner. It is always fun to dress up and go out to your favorite restaurant. Or, if someone in the group is a superb cook, meet up at their house for a more quiet setting. If no one is able to cook, get takeout. Make sure to get lots of ice cream for dessert so everyone sticks around and keeps the conversation going.

Have a tea (or coffee) party

If you are looking for something slower-paced, have a tea party. Let everyone choose their cups, and make sure to have an assortment of teas (herbal, creamy and fruity) and coffee for your guests. To make the event even more special, write a few things for each person attending and use them as place cards. Pick up some scones from a local bakery or make the cutest little finger sandwiches, that will put your childhood tea parties to shame.
