No injuries in housefire, cause unknown

Distraught and shocked residents and passers-by gazed at the charred apartments located at 142 N. Lancaster yesterday afternoon.

A fire started in the bedroom of the downstairs apartment, 142 1/2, between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., said Capt. Brian Muhn of the Athens Fire Department. The value of the damage is unknown and the cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured.

Greg Peterca, an OU student and a resident of 138 N. Lancaster, placed the 911 call between 4:15 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. after he smelled smoke while in his backyard.
